For Your Best Knowledge and Behaviour In The Future

A Moral Value From TV  Programs

Television is one device that almost everyone is familiar with nowadays. Hardly do we find anyone who does not know at all what it is. Even almost all of those who live in the regions having no electricity supply know it, at least superficially. Also, almost never do we find anyone with no television-set in their house. It is even more common that one family has more than one television-set in the house. Sometimes, there is even one in each bedroom.
This television (henceforth, TV) makes it possible for us to watch numerous types of programs broadcasted by the channels in the corresponding province. To put it another way, the channels you can access depend on which province you live in. Briefly speaking, different provinces serve different channels. These channels are called “local channels”. But, there are some broadcasting programs universally, in other words, throughout a country. Let’s say Indonesia. In this country, such channels as RCTI, SCTV, Indosiar, TV One and Trans 7 are among those that universally broadcast their programs.
These channels have never failed to serve umpteen kinds of programs; culinary, news about crimes or the world, entertainments, horror and the list goes on. Speaking of news on TV, well, it is not always good of course. Let’s take crime news for example. As a matter of fact, it often contributes to other crimes. As known, there are many cases indirectly resulting from the previous similar cases such as the killing committed by forcing an object into a woman’s genital area, bank robberies, terrorisms, cash-oriented deception messages and many others. In most cases, the perpetrators admit that they got the ideas from the previous similar cases covered on TV. Those media should put an end to such broadcasts. It is in everyone’s, who has not lost their mind of course, best interest to stop watching those types of news as long as they are presented in that fashion. It is high time for the so-called mainstream stations to begin to consider broadcasting these sorts of news in a less detailed way. It is plausible to analogize the programs to best-selling textbooks through which these perpetrators learn how to commit similar crimes.
Thinking it is the only bad stuff the channels offer? If so, you need to be much more aware of what is happening in this sphere then. There are also various questionable entertainments that end up being moral-degrading programs. Such “entertainments” as certain variety shows and soap-operas are among the best contributors to the current “smart” generation among us. Withstanding the contents which are not suitable for children or teenagers in terms of ways of dressing and mingling, these variety shows still confidently claim that they deserve credit for soothing the depressed and majorly entertaining the society. In actual fact, these programs deviate way far from the norms the majority in this country embraces. They often show how men can easily touch women and do inappropriate things with or to them. They also indirectly justify women’s unethical ways of dressing.
Frankly speaking, this kind of programs plays an unspeakable role in degrading the moral of this nation, especially of the children and teenagers. Ironically, they earn a lot of money from it, while most of our teachers, especially honorary ones and interns, are paid very little amounts of money for educating this nation. It is even as ridiculous as it gets when such a program is repeatedly banned by the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission, but always changes names and keeps successful in resuming with all its rubbish. Strange as it seems, such programs as vulgar crime news, uneducative soap-operas and moral-devastating variety shows are still the ones sitting comfortably in the top-fifty-rating seats. Let me end this with a couple of short but complicated questions. Is it reasonable to perceive this sheer irrationality as a paradox? If so, which ones started it, the programs or the viewers? They are for you to answer, readers.
